T�a Chucha�s Centro Cultural & Bookstore is proud to present
author Luis J. Rodr�guez and his new book It Calls You Back: An Odyssey Through
Love, Addiction, Revolutions, and Healing on Saturday, October 15th from
5pm-7pm. He will be reading from his book and signing afterward. Copies of the
book will be available for sale. The event is free and open to the public.
Luis J. Rodriguez will read from his latest book, the long-awaited
sequel to his award-winning memoir Always Running: La Vida Loca, Gang Days in
L.A., entitled It Calls You Back: An Odyssey Through Love, Addiction,
Revolutions, and Healing, from Touchstone Books/Simon & Schuster. This book
details the intense struggles Luis has had to be a writer, father, husband,
revolutionary, and healer, including dealing with addictions, family abuse, and
a son who did a total of fifteen years in prison.
Luis J. Rodriguez has
emerged as one of the leading Chicano writers in the country with fourteen
published books in memoir, fiction, nonfiction, children�s literature, and
poetry. The son of Mexican migrants, Rodriguez began writing in his early teens
and has won national recognition as a poet, journalist, writer, and critic. He
has been a renowned gang intervention specialist in LA, Chicago and other
cities, as well as Mexico and Central America. Currently working as a peacemaker
among gangs on a national and international level, Rodriguez helped create Tia

A unique bookstore, art and
cultural space that began in 2001 in the Northeast San Fernando Valley, T�a
Chucha�s Centro Cultural & Bookstore continues to make the arts, dance,
music, writing, theater, indigenous cosmology, and literacy the centerpiece of
an on-going economic/cultural revival for the largely neglected Northeast Valley
communities. T�a Chucha�s artistic and educational resources are a much-needed
creative stimulus in the midst of these hard economic times. A 501(c)(3)
non-profit organization, T�a Chucha�s provides a wide variety of workshops, a
bookstore, internet/WiFi access, art exhibits and a performance space.
Activities include Open Mics, film nights, author readings, writing circles,
musical events, healing circles, and community dialogues. T�a Chucha�s also
houses T�a Chucha Press, established in 1989, which publishes quality
cross-cultural poetry from around the country; and Young Warriors, an arts-based
youth empowerment project.
