No Biters Allowed - Crewest Gallery
In May, Crewest celebrates it's 9 Year Anniversary! Crewest is the
first and longest running brick and mortar gallery in L.A. exclusively dedicated
to graffiti and urban street art. We decided to put on a group show to not only
inspire but also educate the community about the historical contribution of some
of the great graffiti artists from the West Coast.
Los Angeles, CA
Crewest is proud to present No Biters Allowed an exhibition featuring works by
artists who have been creating graffiti art or active since the 1980s as well
as purely from the West Coast. These artists were pivotal in transforming the
landscape of what graffiti and urban art is all about to us. The artists in the
exhibit have roots in graffiti painting and writing. Some of these artists have
gone on to become fine artists, graphic designers, and self-employed owners of
different companies. Others have chosen to work as mentors to young people by
offering their graffiti creativity as a positive source of inspiration.
This exhibit will focus on the artwork, old and new, created by some of
the most recognized West Coast street legends from that golden era in graffiti
art history. Highlights of the exhibition include two new large paintings. One
by street legend Chaz Bojorquez and the other by L.A. graffiti art pioneer and
founder of the original "Hip Hop Shop" (from the early '90's) Hector "HEX TGO"
Rios.
Hector Rios will be having an artist talk (date TBD) to discuss
his journey from legendary artist and business man, to youth mentor, to what
he's up to now. This is his first public appearance in the graffiti art world
since he closed his Melrose shop and quit painting graffiti in the early 1990's.
Artists include: ACME, AXIS, CHAZ BOJORQUEZ, CRAYONE, CRE8, DEFER, DUCE,
