BocaFloja - Tiempo | BP Music Video
BocaFloja, an MC hailing from Mexico City, is somewhat of an elder statesman for the underground hip-hop scene in Mexico and has been contributing to it for the better part of seven years. Influenced by styles as diverse as West Coast hip-hop heroes Living Legends, The Roots, Black Star and Gangstarr, as well as neo-soul and jazz, BocaFloja has developed a unique and inimitable style that has put him in the forefront of Mexico's underground. These influences, coupled with his personal growth while living in the most populous city in the world, have imbued his songs with a consciousness of one living in a multicultural society of someone familiar with the struggle one faces by not being one of privileged few. BocaFloja has already performed in the U.S. alongside Dead Prez, 2Mex, and underground legends Freestyle Fellowship.
Jazzyturno is a more introspective, melancholy, and reflective album than BocaFlojas previous work. This record experiments with diverse rhythms like Afro-Cuban Rhythms, Jazz and Classical Music and laces them with local and global topics such as politics, socio-economic crises, philosophy, and ideology. Jazzyturno features production from Unstoppable Unity (US), Mateus Pinguim (Brasil), Ximbo, Ed One, 3G Productions (Mxico) and is enriched lyrically by collaborations with Skool 77 and Akil Aamar, two of the most recognized MCs in Mexico.
Jazzyturno tackles such topics as the troubled socio-political situation of the world in "El Dia De Mi Suerte" (My Lucky Day), while "Sueos Rotos" (Torn Dreams) addresses the unresolved serial killings of the women of Juarez, Mexico. "Tu Comprendes" (You Understand) and "Mi Gente" (My People) are more inward meanderings through his own thoughts. Clearly, Jazzyturno is an example of the evolution of conscious hip-hop emanating from Mexico and Latin America.
