Latin Rap Conference This July, 2004
Everybody knows that Shysti has been putting it down in the rap industry
for quite some time as a producer, rapper, and now as a morning show DJ for one
of the hottest new hip-hop radio stations in San Diego, California, 98.9 MORE
FM. Also a poet and Chicano activist, Shysti has been a leader in promoting the
Chicano and Latino culture through his music. With that same drive and passion,
Shysti has formed the Latin Rap Conference committee which is bringing us for
the first time ever, the Latin Rap Conference. Shysti has taken the time from
his hectic schedule to answer a few questions regarding this ground-breaking
event.
What is the Latin Rap Conference?
It will be the first annual gathering of Chicano / Latino rap industry professionals taking place this summer (July 28-30 in San Diego, California)
Where is the Latin Rap Conference taking place? Why was this location chosen for this event?
It will take place at the Handlery hotel in San Diego, California. It was chosen because we, the organizers, are based in San Diego and we really needed to be close for the planning of this big event. San Diego is a beautiful city in the summer. However, the 2nd annual conference (already being set) will be in Las Vegas, Nevada. We want to move it around to experience different places. Eventually, we want to even take it to the east coast like N.Y. or Miami.
The Latin Rap Conference is reserved only for those in the industry, correct?
Yes. Just for the first one in order to maintain order and organization, the second one and so on should be open to the public.
How did the Latin Rap Conference come about?
A group of individuals came together and decided this would be a great way to unify the industry and help it to grow in positive directions. The group we formed is called the Latin rap conference committee...again; all industry is welcome to help our efforts.
What issues will be discussed during the Latin Rap Conference?
We want to educate each other on publishing, marketing, promotions, radio, media, publicity, networking, industry practice, internet, manufacturing, distribution, new artists and various other topics that are aimed at advancing our industry. We have outstanding people lined up to be on the panels to discuss these issues and every seminar will also include an open forum for Q and A.
What kind of response have you received from those in the industry?
Overwhelming! We have been pleasantly bombarded with interest and registrations for the last 3 months.
Who are some of the major supporters of the Latin Rap Conference?
Universal Music Latino, Univision, 98.9 MORE FM, Fuerte Group, Lowrider Magazine, Dope House Records, Urban Network Magazine, latinrapper.com, Thump Records to name a few...
How will the Latin Rap Conference be similar to other rap industry conferences? How will it differ?
It will be similar in that the goals are positive and it is a tremendous opportunity to network and showcase new talent...it will be different in that the prices are not outrageous and in that we don't have our own pre-determined agenda for the seminars. Every seminar will flow wherever the panel takes it.
What do you hope to achieve with the Latin Rap Conference?
Unity, power and growth for our industry
Do you plan to make the Latin Rap Conference an annual event?
Yup.
Where can those who wish to attend the rap conference get more information about registeration? How can they register to attend?
Go To www.latinrapconference.com all the info is there...if there is something you dont find...call us at 619-477-2200
Anything else the people should know about the conference?
Its going to be a whole lot of fun also. We are planning some parties for the evenings (after the seminars of course) that are going to be off the hook for sure.
