Dear Loved Ones,
We are now on the 13th day of our fast, Saturday May 22nd, and our spirits our high.
One of our fasters, Thomas Prather, had to step out on the 11th day, but is now helping us organize.
We are down to six fasters:
Jessica Vasquez, Israel Haros, Karina Oliva, Fred Jackson, Wendy Gonzalez, Cesar A. Cruz
On Wednesday we migrated from Downtown Oakland to Sacramento and we have received amazing support thus far.
1.) Our negotiating team met with State Superintendent of Public Education, Jack O' Connell, and he has supported two of our three demands. 1) Fully Funding Prop 98 ($2 Billion Back to all California Schools), 2)Equity in Education Funding.
2.) Assemblymber and Chair of the Education Sub-Comm., Jackie Goldberg, has allowed us to use her office and is helping draft a new formula for equity in education funding.
3.) Magistrate to the Supreme Court, Cruz Reynoso, met with the fasters and has also endorsed our first two demands.
4.) Dolores Huerta joined us on
the 4th day and UFW President sent a letter of backing and support to the Gov.

5.) Oakland Mayor and Former Governor Willie Brown declared "

Deputy Cabinet Secretary Kimberly Yee along with staff members Marybel Batjer,
Bonnie Reiss began talks with the fasters on Thursday, the 11th day of the
fast. But we continue with our fast and we look ahead.
Saturday May
22nd Day 13 Fasters will migrate to UC Berkeley to see one of their own,
Karina Oliva, receive her master's degree in front of over 5,000 people at the
Greek Theatre. 6:00p.m. ALL INVITED
Sunday May 23rd Day 14 3 Fasters
return to Sacramento will participate in Music Festival on West Steps of Capitol
(10th & L) 4:00p.m. ALL INVITED 3 Fasters will journey to Richmond to
participate in a prayer vigil at Nichols Park (30th & MacDonald) at 5:00p.m.

Monday May 24th Day 15 10-6:00p.m. Fasters will be at
tent city at the Capitol continuing our fast, Lot 27 (12th & N) 7:00p.m.

Mark Gonzalez, 7:00p.m. Daily Vigil on the West Steps of the Capitol
